my path
to design
IT ALL STARTED…
As a young girl, I’d often watch my father take a plain canvas or whatever media was available to him and turn it into a beautifully painted piece of art. I was fascinated by how this blank canvas could transform into something much more appealing if placed in talented hands. As a result, I found myself drawing, coloring and trying to build/create things from young. Despite my love for art, I took a different path and earned a B.S. degree in Forensic Science with a concentration in Criminalistics from John Jay College. Science may seem unrelated to art and design, but I have found that skills such as being detail oriented, working well under pressure and time management are invaluable assets to a designer.
AND NOW…
After college, I joined the workforce and landed a job at my current employer, Outfront Media (formerly CBS Outdoor). I have since transitioned through several departments over the course of 10 years to reach to where I am now — Digital Operations. It was during that time, I decided to pick up where I left off and head back to school to pursue my passion once again. I remember on his last day, my former boss who left the company to pursue his own dreams turned to me and said, “Krystal, it’s never too late to become what you should’ve been”. That has been my mantra since. I then went on to attend NYC College of Technology, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BTech in Communication Design (concentration in Graphic Design) in 2020.
